She said “YES”!

Great News! As of 8/11/2006 I am officially engaged to the most stunning and amazing woman. I’ve never been as nervous as I was on one knee; I could barely get out a sentence. She is everything I could ever want and need, I love you.

I had no idea the… enter the Cicada.

All my life I have always found these shells of what looks to be a fierce predator or alien bug. But after researching these intriguing creatures, I’ve found an odd life span. These little guys do end up being the slightly annoying and melodic buzzing creatures you hear in the late summer; however, it is their life ’till this point that is astounding. The Cicada lives underground for most of its life feeding on tree roots (and this is the staggering part) for up to 17 years! When i found this one, it was anywhere between 15 to 17 years old and will now spend about 1 year of its life free of the terra forma and fly around. Wouldn’t it be nice if our last year we spent flying around the heavens?
I have seen these my whole life, left on trees, outdoor furniture, and swing sets, but I had no idea that this little guy might have been born when i was 10 yrs old…amazing.

166 Year Old Batteries Still Going!

I found an article on the three longest sience experiments still going on. I can’t believe this one. the Oxford Electric Bell was set up in 1840 and is a simple battery in series powering a bell ringer…and it’s still going! The question is, obviously they can make batteries that run A LOT longer then a few months so why? I’m sure it’s the replacement = need marketing. Make a product that last just long enough, but make it proprietary so people become dependent on it, then you never have to upgrade the actual product ie. lightbulbs, shaving razors, and now batteries.
